Someone had asked whatever happened to Chicago socialist-ska band The Adjusters. Well, I accidentally discovered that lead singer Daraka Larimore-Hall (pictured above on their "Before The Revolution" album cover) is now a graduate student in sociology at Univ of California at Santa Barbara. He's been quite busy there with protests for a living wage ordinance, against the policies of Governor Schwarzenegger and more. Apparently, just this month he was appointed to the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Commission.

Google his name and you'll find lots of his work and speeches advocating democratic socialism. A very interesting guy. :D

A few links:
His outdated blog, Hoverbike

An old speech on Democratic Socialism

I don't expect most of you to get into this stuff, but it'd be nice if most of you respected his well articulated opinions and if maybe a few of you actually appreciated some of this. It'd be awesome too if we could manage to form local five of the Modern Action Club. Anyone interested?

Hmm I don't like the idea of MAC.

I don't know about the polical standing of The Adjusters, but man that was a great band. I first heard them on a Moon comp, Moonshot, like back in 99' and had to get more after that. You gotta love the Motown influences.

They're really good live as well. I saw them play with Deal's Gone Bad (another great band) at one of Chuck Wren's shows in Chicago. Even though Daraka wasn't there (he was at the Socialist Internationale), they sounded really tight and solid.

I highly recommend the newest album, "Otis Redding Will Save America". Not much ska, but great anyway. :D
