rocksteady has mass appeal like motown stax music. to most all people
its not a as frenetic as ska, some live reggae can drone on w/ two chords forver and get monotonous, but these rocksteady songs are usually a brief set pattern of verses choruses repeating a few time and . bam,. it's done and on to the nect #.

I think part of the problem promoting rocksteady is that so very few people understand what it is. Far fewer than ska. And its rather hard to explain.

But I agree, it's a nice, accessible sound.

rocksteady is probably my favorite form of jamaican music. its sooo soulful. full of absolutely talented singers like alton ellis, desmond dekker, the wailers (before they were known as bob marley AND the wailers), the heptones, marcia griffiths. everyone should check out the trojan rocksteady box set for a sampling of great rocksteady music.

fun note about rocksteady that wasnt included in the wiki article:
the summer of 1966 was exceptionally hot. people got too tired and hot to dance to ska. so the musicians slowed it on down and the result was rocksteady.

go go gergie signing off.

Even if you're not aware of the connection, that picture should look vaguely familiar:
