Syracuse Ska Forum is provided as a public service to people in Syracuse NY and other areas of Upstate New York that are interested in ska and reggae music. While most of the discussions here naturally revolve around our common love of this music, they also tend to veer into other subjects of interest to members of our music community.

To post new topics, reply to existing topics or participate in polls, you need to register. We strongly encourage you to do this, so that you can fully particpate in our little online community. It costs you nothing, you don't have to use your real name and we don't use the registration information to sell you anything. Why not register?

Once you register, please introduce yourself on the "Introductions" thread provided for that purpose. We simply ask a few basic questions so we can understand a little about you and why you're interested in this music we love. :D

The people responsible for this Forum have no problem with people posting about ska or reggae shows or bands from well outside our area. We have always been curious about ska & reggae music outside our local area and you'll discover some of us travel far if the show sounds exciting enough. We also happily host ska & reggae bands passing through our area, to the extent we can.

While we also like other styles of music, our communal interest is in ska & reggae, so that's what we prefer to discuss on this Forum. When we veer from those genres, it's because our existing Forum members choose to do that. We really want to discourage people from other genres posting about their bands or shows here just for that sole purpose. It's just largely a waste of your time and ours, sorry.

Even more annoying to us are people who clearly don't care about our music posting simply to sell us things unrelated to ska & reggae music in any way. Gambling and porn are obvious examples. That is simply so annoying to us that we won't tolerate it at all. Posters engaging in such behavior will be warned and if they persist, will be blocked.

Otherwise, all we request is civility above all else. We believe that ska & reggae music, among other things, celebrate the joy of life. Ours is a "big tent" that includes many different backgrounds and beliefs. We get along in spite of those differences because we consciously choose to agree to disagree on many topics. That said, we do have areas where we agree: racism, sexism, elitism and homophobia are just plain wrong. We tend to be optimists about life and we live our lives accordingly -- and we make no apologies for that! :D

Lastly, while we acknowledge that not everyone likes the phpBB software that runs this Forum, we've chosen to use it both for it's versatility and since its the most common software in use for this purpose. Many of our members post on other messageboards as well and it's always harder to learn a software that is used infrequently. If you take a few moments to learn how phpBB does things, we hope you too will see it's benefits. For example, if you post and then change your mind about something, simply hit the "Edit" button and you may re-edit your post as often as you like. You can add photos, web links and much more.

Welcome to the Syracuse Ska Forum!!!

And shame on us if we should associate it with your actions.

Psh. You've said you're better than me, which obviously isn't true at ALL.
You, sir, are a liar!

It's all relative.

Oh yes, because AP obviously equals intelligence.

Having successfully completed numerous AP/honors courses, I can say quite frankly, they are worthless. They are classes taught to a test.

I thought they were great until I got to college and realized what learning really is.
[/rant]

On that note, I think I've met Mike, maybe once. Therefore, I have no opinion on him.

I never said my AP scores/classes made me better. It was to prove to Trevor that I wasn't an idiot.

I only know Karen because we danced at the Streetlight show and didn't say two words to each other.

And every facet of my being makes me better than you.

Obviously.

Took me three years at a two-year school to learn they couldn't teach me anything I couldn't teach myself.

But what do I know? I'm just a poor, dumb white boy from Binghamton.

Mike is an acquired taste. When I first met him, I didn't like him. I thought he was a jerk with a big mouth.

Later, I figured out that he actually is a jerk with a big mouth, but I got used to it.

On the learning note, I found in high school, they taught purely to tests; even the honors and AP courses. They were more concerned with memorization than comprehension.

In college, what I am finding is it is more being intellectually stretched to the point of fully comprehending the material.

On the loud-mouth jerk note, that sounds very similar to one of my best friends, so I would probably get along with Mike.

to be successful in high school, just be able to memorize what you learn and repeat it back.....
