Since when did I Voted for Kodos start to suck?

Now before you say that I hate everything (which really is a gross exaggeration, I only hate terrible things), I would like to point out that I LOVED old I Voted For Kodos, especially "Where Are We Going To", "All I have Left", "Todd", and "She Hates Ska". It isn't even the fact that they became a pop-punk band (I do enjoy a lot of pop-punk), but that they became a terrible pop-punk band. They did the exact same thing as the Aquabats did and pulled their horns (not all but most) in place of keys.

I loved these guys and it really disappoints me that they decided to becoem sucktacular.

I agree that this new stuff isn't so great. I totally missed when they lost all their horns, did they have them at the two most recent Syracuse shows?

One flugelhorn I'm recalling???

IVFK has never had a great horn section and its tough to keep a decent horn section together for touring and they do a lot of it. Hopefully this is just a dry spell for them musically that will pass.

I was never a huge fan of IV4K, but I enjoyed them. They were a fun band, but the new stuff sounds like a mix between Hellogoodbye and Charge!

I didn't think it was possible to make "Please Die in a Fire" sound bad, but they succeeded.

Matt Wixson wrote a song about this.

i listened to the new stuff and i like but not as much as the old material. as far as the horn section goes it looks like the only change since their last visit is the loss of a trombone player. rick, the singer, still plays trombone and they still have a guy playing that other horn i cant ever remember the name of.

You guys wanna see something insane? Go to http://www.myspace.com/iv4k .

Seriously, they are bashing the band like crazy, i kind of feel bad. on one hand, everyone has their opinions. But on the other hand, some people got a bit angry about the style change. I dunno... its like a little war on their myspace.

I am somewhat sympathetic to them. IV4K made their name by being a part of a scene, and they always expressed how happy they were to be a part of that scene. When the chance came to get signed if they changed their style, they did. In effect, they have slapped that scene in the face.

I, however, would not publicly bash the band in that manner, as it is not my style. Others, though, feel the need to post their opinion regardless of whether it is in good taste. IV4K will know I am displeased with them, as I will no longer go to their shows, buy their merchandise, or promote them to my friends.

...And, I had pretty much given up on IV4K's live show anyway. I got fed up with hearing them play "She Hates Ska" 10x faster than it was supposed to be played.[/b]

ive always thought the band should determine how fast a song 'should' or 'should not' be played?

yeah, when they write and record it.

then, when they play it live, it should be about the same speed as they wrote and originally recorded it. it's called keeping time. something IV4K stopped doing with that song.

It's unfortunate too, because all their other songs they played at about the right speed, and then they would always do "She Hates Ska" last and I'd walk out with a bitter taste despite a pretty good performance otherwise.

i see your point about the recorded speed being 'correct'. at the same time you don't know how fast they intended it to be played when they wrote it. i dont know this for a fact but it is possible that they recorded the song slower than they play it simply because it sounds better recorded at that speed.

at this point im just arguing for the sake of arguing......o well.

I've always known bands to speed up and slow down songs, for a variety of reasons. Too Hectic once did a show in Buffalo that was all high school punk kids, which the band was convinced would hate their set. So they speeded it up mostly to get it over faster, but it had the unintended side benefit of sounding like ska-punk and thus the kids there loved it (but oh were they in for a surprise if they bought the CD).

Likewise, I've known bands to slow songs down to make them sound more reggae. It just seems a bands personal decision how to handle such issues. I've never seen a live set by any band that left EVERYONE happy, ya know?
