So, at my school, one of our foreign exchange students, Jorge, is from Columbia, and, at a "techno" party of his I went to on Friday, he showed me this song by an Argentinian ska band. It was freaking awesome. Him and I were the only ones dancing, and then everyone came up and was like "hey, that looks fun. Teach us!!" It was a pretty good time. I'll try to get more information on the band/song and keep you updated. Peace out.

Yeah, ever since Los Fabulosos Cadillacs really took off, Argentina has had a thriving ska scene. There are a ton of websites for them. There is a huge scene also in Venezuela and Brazil too. Colombia has some ska as well.

Lots of good ska down that way. :D

Our foreign exchange student from Ecuador was supposed to burn a bunch of reggea and punk from there but he never did. Maybe I'll remind him again tomorow.

Drudging up ancient history here but...

I talked to Jorge and he said the band that he had me listen to was called Ska Bananas or Skabananas, I don't know if it's one word or two. I couldn't find anything on the net about them, but, in the process, I found a pretty good German ska band called Go Bananas. Check it out:

They've got some music on there. I like it.

Well, I found the song on the web, but it's not by Skabananas. It is the song "Canabis" by SKA-P. I f***ing love this song. :D

It's somewhat changing the subject, but I'm dying to find a good Puerto Rican ska band to play in Syracuse. I saw firsthand the wild reaction to King Chango at The Haunt in Ithaca and I'm hoping to even partially replicate that experience. I can't even figure out if Los Pies Negros still does shows in Puerto Rico, let alone the US.
