Danny asked me to write down some names and links and here we go.

The most of them will be from Germany, because I'm most familiar with those bands.
Feel free to ask questions regarding specific band or information about missing bands.

Man, I'm wracking my brain to try to remember what comp I used to have with Blechreiz on it and I'm getting nowhere. I couldn't remember what the song was either, until there it was on their website - a German version of (A Message to You) Rudy. New video, but it's either the same recording I remember or they haven't changed a note of it in 15 years.

Sorry, i'm pretty lazy with the updates.

Recently there are two bands which caught my attention.
They are trying to play folk ska, pretty well by the way
Die Roten Noten http://www.rote-noten.de/main.htm
Resistanzen2 http://www.myspace.com/resistanzen2

P.s.: I hope there is no problem with using the GB flag for bands from England, too.

Here is a pretty good explanation of the proper terminology to use when talking about England or Scotland or the UK, etc.

Too bad there doesn't seem to be a German translation for that page yet. FWIW, most Americans get the terms pretty mixed up as well. When we say "England" as often as not we really mean "UK". When we had Sonic Boom Six here, I always listed them as being from "Manchester, England", which is correct, but so would have been "Manchester, UK", but most Americans would have hesitated when seeing that ("oh ... they mean England -- right?"). BTW, we had a local reporter show up to take photos of the "band from London" -- because of course in America, all English bands are from London.

Anyways, I'd use a UK flag and list all those Scottish or English (or Welsh or Northern Ireland) bands as "UK", unless you're also going to split out Catalonia or the Basque Country from Spain, for example.

Incidentally, are you honestly trying to catalog some of the bigger European ska bands? If so, that's a herculean task and a moving target at that. Same with American bands. We might have more ska bands here than in Europe, just because most of our bands are in high school and spread like mushrooms.

This is the most ambitious attempt I know about to list ALL ska bands. You'll notice he ran out of gas after listing 1,346 of them!

Hehe, the british lands are a weird bunch
I thought GB would be equal to UK. Thanks your sense of erm being as specific as possible ;)

edit: Somehow the creator of these flags saved the uk flag under gb.gif
So everything was correct from the beginning

And yeah it was my plan to list at least a large number of ska bands. The problem is the coding of the page, because i don't want a list with all the names (our friend already did that). I want information! So we can say our genre has a history that everyone is able to follow!

By the way, there is a german group, which is trying to interview as much ska bands as possible.
already: http://www.derdude-goes-ska.de/ (usually in german...sorry guys!)
http://www.derdude-goes-ska.de/SkaKolumnen.htm (a few in english)

List of german bands: http://www.derdude-goes-ska.de/dt-Bands.html
Even more band from all over the world: http://www.derdude-goes-ska.de/Bandlist.html

I'm not sure when i have to to work on it again. School has a great pressure on me at the moment. I need to read a lot of books.
So if anyone wants to help out, just leave a message and start collecting information so i can add it to the page!

Only 2 French ska bands so far? They seem to have quite a few and I have someone asking me to hook them up with some French ska.

Here seems to be one of the bigger ones: Marcel et son Orchestre

The irony is, in spite of their goofy outfits, apparently almost all their songs are basically political. I gather they mock a lot of people and groups and that's part of their appeal. Plus, they seem to put on a highly entertaining show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEf7HCpE1xs

I'm not crazy about that song, though if I understood the lyrics better maybe I'd feel differently.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgA8zy2Y9z0 About global warming (and yeah, I believe the cow the most too).

Apparently, they've toured as far as Quebec and Senegal. I can only wonder what the people in Senegal thought of their outfits, hahaha.

I've never heard of them. Thank you for your post. I added a few more French bands.

It seem like the page is working again and i can add some more bands there and to this thread!
Feel free to post more bands ;)

If you want, i can set up an account for you for the page

edit: by the way, resistanzen2 did a cover of mad caddies "Weird Beard" (same name on their disc, on myspace it's "wilder Bart")

I' am kinda back on track. If you like to learn more you should visit the website and help out there. It's easier to update.
For now i will stop updating this thread.
Nevertheless, you can keep discussing. Add bands, labels or a country you would like to hear more from!
