I haven't been to a show in so long. I feel so lame. Maybe I'll go to the next one.
The real reason for my return... is Buffalo ska dead? I want to go to shows when I'm at school.

Yeah, none of those are ska shows, unfortunately.

There is a lot more live music in Buffalo than there is in Syracuse -- there are a lot more people and a lot more venues -- but a lot less ska, most of the time. I'm trying to work with the Buffalo ska bands to remedy that, as Mark Miller (aka Maddog) of Sickboy Productionz has really cut back on ska bookings and he's done most of them in the recent past. But you're still going to get bands like Streetlight and Mustard Plug and We Are The Union done by other promoters there.

Several of the Buffalo ska bands lurk here, like AKS, so maybe they can say more?

Lastly, I'd encourage anyone going off to college this fall to get involved with your campus concert board -- they host the concerts on campus using student money.

http://www.buffaloshows.net/forums/ <--very busy board, pretty much every show worth knowing about is posted on this board but you will have to scroll through a lot of posts

http://www.myspace.com/centerstageconcerts <---books tons of big name bands and does local showcases
http://www.myspace.com/wnyafterdark<---books tons of big name bands including ska
http://www.myspace.com/supernautbooking<--books big indie bands
http://www.myspace.com/sickboyproductionz <--smaller metal, ska and local showcases

http://www.townballroom.com/events.htm <---lots of huge shows here, does their own booking and gets rented out
http://www.myspace.com/buffalosugarcity <--art space that sometimes does shows
Houses: 99 Custer, The Argyle, The Attic

The local ska bands sometimes put on their own smaller shows and the best way to keep up to date on that is to check their myspaces:
http://www.myspace.com/aksska
http://www.myspace.com/thevandersons

Obviously there are more venues, promoters and such but pretty much if you lurk that message board and a few myspaces you should get the heads up on shows you're interested in.

buffalo has been in a resession since we (AKS) started playing shows 3/4 yrs ago, that was band's like Knifepoint By A Drag Queen, Not On Track, From Under City Chaos, Gnar Dogs Revenge, And Many More... and i think even the Scurvy Knaves were breaking up, its been pretty rough. usually a few random bands would emerge for about 6 - 8 months then just dissapear again. Band's like The Full House and Mechatama just disappeared completely without anyone knowing. Do It With Malice ditched it's entire horn section and have nothing now. Besides ourselves i believe is the rare showing of the Vandersons, occationally the spooning crusiers, and...... no thats it. i remember the 716-ska show at infinity in 2007 where we had atleast 7 if not more solid ska bands coming out of buffalo, and now there's really nothing left. i mean what mad dog (mark miller) gets the show goes either hit or miss, other promoters get the bigger shows (ska is dead for example coming up this sept/oct) and the show usually does phynominal. its pretty lame now. kids only stay to see their friend's band and once that band plays their set, the band and everyone who came to see them bails. i mean i know i dont pay $8 to only see one 30 min set.... bands used to be closer but now their isnt much left to get close to. anyone wants help though out here id be more than glad to help them set somethin up.
