What's up, how's everybody been? Of quourse I'm fine.
Today i was looking at the syracuse ska page and i noticed most local band names are below average (JUST MY OPINION). rather than being negative, here are mini critiques of the only names i found to be above average:

The Glow: short and bland but somehow memorable with a nice sound

Levar Burtones: probably not one of the better names but i like it a lot, a
few years ago it wouldn't be as good when every other
band had "tone" in it.

Honorable mention: Thuh benefits, the Hot Steppers

All other bands: go rename yourselves!
(I'm kidding of quourse)

What do you think about the name "The Secret Ions" be as brutally honest as you feel necessary. I need some outside opinions.

Argyle,
The Secret Ions doesn't sound that good to me, it might be because you have the adjective "secret" in there, can't think of too many good band names with adjectives. However, i kind of like The Ions. There's your honest response, hope it's not too negative.
Sincerely,
Thuh Party Animal

I think that The Bill Riely Enigma is a freaking awesome name, despite the fact that it is often confused with Bill O'Riley, the person, who has little or nothing to do with ska.

ill admit Magic Goat is not a great name, but our name used to be: The Fresh Grotesque Left Shoes. I like to think Magic Goat is half a step up from that.

Everyone I gave a flyer to locked in on that name - it immediately inspired curiosity.

Which is how I reacted to Magic Goat - I immediately wanted to find out why the hell they were named that.

How about we talk about how bands got their names? I found it amusing that Aaron and his old bandmates worked on a name when all they could think of was food, hence the name Skalapenos.

I want to know who Bill Reilly is, and what makes him so damn enigmatic.

Hahaha i seem to have been summoned...

First of all, in Prince's song, she was wearing a "Raspberry Barete...the kind you find in a second hand store" hahaha

Now onto the bulk... on a hot june day in 2002, at our first practice, we were all sweating our balls off in mikes bedroom. His mom, Susan for short, came in will this crystal lite stuff, and gave us each a glass... it was luke warm, mediocre, but we didnt give a shit, cause it was liquid. So we like like "SUE WHAT THE F*** IS THIS." and she responded those infamous words, "I dont know... Raspberry SOMEthing..."

We were all like.. man... that should be our band name. But we all thought everyone else was serious, even though each of us were joking. So, in essensce, it was a joke that will never, ever end haha...

As for the spelling change. I cant recall why the hell that happened.. it must have happened while were all either sleeping or suffering from head truama haha... hope that helps a bit...

Rory

First some background info:
Magic Goat had been together for a little while under several different names some good (but already taken) some terrible (seperatly picking words and puting them together). We were in an identity crisis!

Well Dan, and I work as snowboard instructors at toggenburg mtn. (as do Alex W, Steve, and Jon). One day we were in the lift line wearing our instructors' jackets. A lady behind us was like "Did you plan the matching coats?".........I heard "Do you play in the Magic Goat?" In response to this seemingly nonsense question I turned around, looked at her for a couple seconds and blurted out a slightly less than polite "No!!?" When we got on the lift Dan inquired why i was so rude? I explained, he explained, and Magic Goat was born.

If that lady were to ask me that same question today i would be able to proudly anwer Yes!

And if someone were to ask if i played in The Fresh Grotesque Left Shoes, I would simply say Not anymore.
