To me, horns should be the last thing a ska band worries about. Lottsa horns with a sloppy rhythm section sounds like garbage. It's one thing i like about the 2-tone era, minimal and/or intelligent use of horns. Many of today's bands have 3 or 4 horns which I find overpowering. Luxembourg-based Skype offers a free service when users make computer-to-computer calls to other Skype users. Charges apply when Skype users make calls to, or receives calls from, regular phone numbers.
Bands with only no horns or only one horn used sparingly sound the most polished to me.

I understand what you're saying, but just look at some of the amazing bands with lots of horns:
Catch 22
Skavoovie and the Epitones
Big D and the Kids Table
Streetlight Manifesto

Catch my drift? Yes, ska can sound good w/ little horns, or w/o horns altogether (i.e. "Seed" by Sublime is one of my favorite ska songs of all time), but, in my opinion, ska is so much more musical and expressive with brass (i.e. Skavoovie and the Epitones and their amazing Jazz-Ska style). So, there are arguments for both sides. Either way...

I poersonally think Catch 22 is pretty damn sloppy. But thats because I don't like them at all.

P.S. PERFECT DARK is the most amazing N64 game EVER.

i see what you are saying about a strong rhythm section being the most important thing in a band. this is true. however if a band simply has one horn player that one horn player may be sloppy as hell and you wont notice because he is the only ones. the more horn players there are, the greater the chances that one will be sloppy.

Brass is not an essential ingredient to ska. Doing without and/or adding "non-traditional" instruments can help buck the "all ska bands sound alike" stereotype. (The other antidote to that is quality songwriting, of course.)

That's not a very good arguement.I say ska is really lacking in picollo's

The great thing about ska is that it doesn't need to meet certain requirements in order to be classified into that specific genre. It can vary in so many different ways.

Therefore all musicians who dabble in ska are given the wonderful privilege of experimenting to see what works for them, given, what works for them doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

And to see everything else is to become an understanding molecule in evolution, a conscious tool of the universe...[not] unconscious or zonked out, I'm talking about being fully conscious...the Grateful Dead should be sponsored by the government or something. It should be a public service, you know, and they should set us up to play at places that need to get high."-Jerry Garcia, 1972

I totally agree with that.

Seriously, what gets people to skank? A cathcy rhythm.

You then compliment the rhythm with a sick horn part.
