I guess "Huh?" is technically a question.

I bet the rapper Verbs is threatening or something equally goofy.

Ok, basically we're changing our name, and any references to the band "The Verbs" needs to be changed as soon as possible. We'll be the same exact band but under a different name. Sorry for any confusion Brandon's earlier comment may have caused.

I always thought The Helen Keller Orchestra would be a cool name for a band....

What? When did this happen? Did you decide this at your random meeting the other day or something?

Not sure why this has to be melodramatic. It's a very common problem that we all need to get better at.

There is an artist who apparently has copyrighted "The Verbs" and has formally notified our local band under that name that they need to use another name. The only problem will be if the local band were to fight this and they aren't, so it's not going to be a big deal. They didn't purposely choose a copyrighted name and they'll change it promptly.

I haven't seen the actual letter yet, but I can guarantee it was meant to freak them out, as all such letters are meant to do. It's very standard practice, honestly.

They'll change their name and a new website will appear with that name. In the meantime, they've done nothing wrong and none of us have either. So, don't get all worked up over nothing.

A bigger issue I've seen time and again is using someone else's artwork and making your own merch with that same logo and selling it. That will always get you into trouble. Don't do that.

Likewise, I'd like to see our local bands more carefully research their band names. You should start copyrighting your names to protect them. It's not complicated or expensive. Avoiding confusion is good for everyone.

This has been a public service announcement. :D

You mean trademarked. They don't do copyrights on names, titles or phrases.
