It's funny. I think SM is over- and under- rated. It's weird for me since i've been right there with them since, well, before they started. So, watching them get huge and how people act at their shows and treat them like rockstars and stuff really boggles my mind. They're still the guys that had a merchandise war after the first empress show to me. So, in that sense, they seem over-rated in my head. However, I really don't think that a lot of people understand what a great song writer Tomas really is. 11 songs or not, those are 11 excellent, well-written songs. And they have the history of OCG and Catch 22 behind them. Not to mention BOTAR. In the sense that I don't think people really see how great of a songwriter (or how absolutely amazing their live show is) i think they're under-rated.

I think it's at a point where the people who are into them are TOO into them (me probably being one of them) and the people that aren't really into them are just on the outside of something special.

i actually agree with you. i think if anything, the ramones are under-rated. they started an entire music movement with a little bit of help and you're saying their over-rated? That's a ridiculous idea in my head. The fact that if you go up to an average 18 year old and ask them if they know who the ramones are, and they won't know means that they are under-rated. Everyone should know who they are, and not just when you go, "Um, that song Sedated..." or "Ya know that Rockaway Bedding commercial? Well, the whole Rock Rock Rockaway bedding thing is really a ramones song called Rockaway Beach..." or "yeah, you know the whole, 'Hey Ho! Let's go!' thing that's in five billion commercials? Yeah? Well, that's Blitzkrieg Bop..."

I saw Allister (yes, I like allister, sue me) at the Knitting Factory in NYC a while back, and they said, "Well, since we're in New York City, we decided we should play this..." and then they went into "Blitkrieg Bop" and people were looking around so confusedly. I was ashamed of every kid in that room for A) Not knowing the song and B) Not understanding why Allister thought they should pay homage to the Ramones.

ever see the movie "rock n roll high school" where a buncha kids take over their high school w/ the ramones as the sound track to fuel the rebellion. and the ramones show up and play a show and the kids like burn the school the ground. that was a cool movie.
