Damn Danny, you beat me to it.

Until the last announcement of bands, I wasn't going to go. (I will be in Anaheim that week, anyways) But since I will never get a chance to see JFC without massive travel, and probably the same with The Aggrolites, it is now worth the drive up from SoCal.

Yeah, the lineup you mentioned gave me mixed feelings too. But I agree with you that JFC and The Aggrolites make this a lot more interesting. Which I'm sure was the point.

BTW, you'll find dirt cheap airfares (often $20) from SoCal to Vegas. Easier than driving, although it's good to have a car in Vegas, I'll admit. Or if you're really adventuresome, you can rent a scooter there. I definitely need to try that option sometime. :D

I need to find out if the kids I'm staying with are planning on driving up, if so I'll do that. Otherwise I may fly up there solo.

Oh, and Ska Weekend is going to be AMAZING this year, so I need to save my money for that.

God damn ska, seems like it takes all my money. :D

I am actually really pissed off that VGS gets 15 more minutes than JFC, when it's JFC's first show back in a couple of years and VGS is terrible. Supposedly JFC is also playing the pre-show, though.

I suspect they're only getting 30 minutes because a good portion of the people going to this don't even know who JFC ever was. I'm more upset that the Aggrolites only get 30 minutes, although I'm sure its for the same reason. C'mon, we know a good number of people will go just for RBF.

Incidentally, I find a couple of decisions Bucket made on the band order significant. The Toasters were seriously cheated at Ska Summit by playing last, after RBF. There had been 11,000+ there for RBF, but that dwindled to maybe 3,000 for The Toasters. Now I see he's got his band just before RBF, which is smart. And it's very cool The Skatalites are the listed headliner and at a decent hour (The Toasters at Ska Summit went on at like 11pm). But it's still gonna be a challenge to get the youngest kids to stick around for them.

I happen to love VGS, but I've always gotten the impression that puts me in a distinct minority around this part of the country. I've always suspected their Latin influences either bother people or at best disinterest them. But they have a HUGE following in Latin ska circles and by pairing them with La Banda Skalavera, I think you'll see a serious turnout from the Latin ska community (which is quite sizeable around the US and exploding). I miss the very dominant Mexican culture around LA and VGS gives me a nice fix for that. :P

I've hung out with Eddie of VGS several times and we relate well, even if my gringoness is getting worse being in Upstate NY. He couldn't understand a band I was talking about, because I wasn't pronouncing it the Spanish way, which was embarrassing on my part. I know better.

Well, it no longer matters:

Jeffries Fan Club will NOT be playing the Ska Circus in March. We are only playing at Chain Reaction on April 15. Ska Circus looks like it's going to be a great show--I wish we could play it. But, alas, we cannot.

Peace.

MD

As far as VGS goes, I have no problem with their Latin roots, I just happen to think their music is terrible and repetitive.

I mentioned I wasn't familiar with them, and half the BurTones looked at me like I announced I was the Queen of France.

Suburban Legends have been added in place of JFC.

The only bands I haven't seen on ISC are the Skatalites, The Aggrolites, and La Banda Skalavera.

I have seen RBF over twenty times, the Toasters five times, Westbound Train five times, The Debonaires once, SL twice, and VGS once, even though I'm not really a fan of the last two.

Having JFC up there was a huge draw for me, because it would probably be the only chance I would get to see them. As much as I love The Aggrolites, and like The Skatalites, it's just not worth the money.

Again, I am disappointed, and more than likely won't be going. I'll save the money for Ska Weekend.

Easily my favorite ska band, or at least top 3.

They would be amazing if they had a different singer. That's just my opinion though...

I think VGS are pretty sweet after my friend who loves them introduced them to me. I does seem like it would be a band that people can dislike easily, but i think you have to give every band a chance before you say they are bad, maybe give it like 20-30 years, im sure by the year 2030 you would like them if you listened to them enough.

Actually, I like their singer a lot of the times. The songs just don't flow well and don't mix together. They are kind of like a terrible, latin Big D.

Or Big D is a good, American VGS...
