Nice to see an article that gets it right:

The skinhead movement started in England in the early 1970s, born out of class tensions and working class pride. Working class youths based their fashion on work clothing, such as steel-toed boots and flight jackets. Polo shirts and suspenders - called "braces" by some skinheads, especially in England - are also popular.

"Part of it's about looking nice," Hutchinson said. "You're supposed to look respectable."

The group has always been strongly linked with music, including reggae, ska and punk. Many of the traditional skinheads in the area listen to a particularly working class version of punk rock known as "Oi!"

...

The traditional skinhead movement predates the use of a shaved head as a symbol of neo-Nazism or white supremacist militarism, according to information on multiple Internet reference sites.

Well, it's close, anyway. Closer than most.
