Honestly, this is the only messageboard where I hang out. Once in awhile I'll check out the Syracuse Punk board. And once in a blue moon I'll check out some of the hardcore boards.

Hmmmmm.

I knew that ska was a funny word, a funny concept to a lot of people in the hardcore scene. I guess I didn't fully appreciate before how ska seems to be the punchline to every hardcore joke. It seems to be a guaranteed laugh.

No matter to me. This isn't a new thing.

Back when John McKaig was heading the Syracuse hardcore scene, he was actually going to ska shows (he was a big fan of Too Hectic) and therefore, it never occurred to anyone to make jokes about it to any real extent. John leaves town and that was one of the many things that changed (don't even get me started about what else changed).

Again, I'm not defensive. I've seen the evolution of this over time, so I think I understand it better than most. I was mocked mercilessly when I started Experiments of Ska in 2000 ("no one will come and no one will care!") and I've taken a perverse pleasure in proving the naysayers wrong. I take pride in wearing ska on my lapel as a badge of honor. And I know for fact that many of you do as well.

So, I ask you, how can we better wear this badge of honor?

**(Okay, this is where Johanna has to stop reading)**

I've been meaning to make up patches, stickers, buttons, shirts and hoodies forever and 2006 is the year I'm actually going to do it. Give me some good slogans to use for them. Seriously.

Rocks is especially good at this, so I hope she pipes in. I suspect Twitch and Aaron will have good ideas (and that Mike and Steven will have the sarcastic one-line rebuttals). I'm really bad at this, but I'll give it a try to get the ball rolling ...

Better suggestions??????????????????

Twitch and I have actually thought about t-shhirts and stuff just for us and then making some up eventually.

I won't make fun of Danny (I'm pro-t-shirt), just stupid ideas.

"positive and proud" sounds like someones HIV status. I like the idea. in the Uk pins are called badges so badges of honor is a good name for this thread. i'd like to see simple syracuse ska shirts and badges or syracuseska.com w/ some basic black n white graphic or just a cool font on the words, i don think u need a slogan unless you are printing on the back(which jax up the price). whatever you come up w/ pls steer clear of puns. i hate beauty salons w/ pun names hairanoia sheer madness etc..
of upstateska would be nice and more inclusive.

I'd stay away with Jamiacan things too.

White people decked in Jamiaca gear and the such is very iffy.

Get Xtina to do your t-shirt graphics!

Your scooter club patch is super smooth.

And I agree with Mike... seeing 75 fifteen year old white kids from manlius wearing "Da Roots, Mon" shirts would freak me out.

Obvious alternative is "upbeat".

I took a jacket to be silk-screened on Saturday, hopefully done by Friday.

We'll see how the prototype turns out and go from there.

I had a few slogan ideas kicking around; only one I can remember is:

EVERYBODY LIKES SKA
(they just don't know it yet)

I agree that Positive and Proud sounds like an HIV thing. And I dig the "Upbeat" alternative...

Hardcore kids like xTUFFx. Maybe that will help.

How about "Unity" with a guy punching someone in the face.
