i know there are skunk subgenres of 3rd wave ska (did i just say wave?)
but coming from the roots side i can't hear alot of ska in some of this music people are labling ska these days. i guess i need to get my stroller
and my pollygrip, but it doesnt sound like ska to me. a

I agree, but I am a fan of the "third-wave" so I guess my opinion is null and void.

i'm from the set mentioned in the article as making no sense that considers toasters bim skala bim potato 5 hotknives etc 3rd wave

and all this new stuff i'd call 4th wave.

I agree, if you listen to a trad song from the 60s then a Mustard Plug song consecutively they are definately not the same form of music by any means. British ska around 1980 was influenced by punk and people from the West Indies... 60s ska didnt smoothly grow into 2-tone at all. since then it has evolved into punk-ska and other forms with a rock beat. with punk/rock ska there hasn't been a direct evolution of the music.

Okay, I understand what you're all saying, but I also reject the notion there is such a thing as "pure ska". All 60s ska has obvious influences that vary from artist to artist. And those were contemporary influences and it shouldn't surprise anyone that contemporary influences would continue.

To the people of England in the late 70s, the ska sound was very obvious and set 2-tone apart from everything else at the time. While there had obviously been some adaptations made from 60s ska, its also obvious the connection.
