I used to dislike dub and wrote it off as music for the heavily stoned.
later in life i aquired a taste for some dub. Aswad new chapter of dub is one of my all time fave reggae lps. (wots an lp?)
but i dont like it all. some of the modern steppers uk dub get very monotonous. i prefer dub w/. snips of the vocal track mixed in and not just a strictly instrumental version, but some of those are ok. mad professor has some really creative dub records on his Ariwa label from the uk. when JBB dubs out a song for 15 min sometimes it stays into jamband land and not really my bag, but i give them credit for using a good engineer as a musican. a solid live dub mixer at the soundboard is great. i saw the prfeser at vermont reggae fest dubbing the band live and that was way cooler than his club shows w/ tapes. bro messian dread post lots of free songs:

I agree. I like it when like select lines get put in. It usually sounds very good. Dub is good for relaxing in my opinion.

i really get into about 1/5 dub records i hear. it would be near impossible to make a record in this genre that has mass appeal or even apeals to the majority of reggae fans. You could make the perfect album of dub yet the majority wouldn' be able to digest it. maybe someone can recommend some dub that would have wide appeal.

Wow, I didn't consider myself very knowledgeable about dub, but I know about half the artists mentioned on most of those top 10 lists. I'm also amazed how many are ska artists doing dub. I was never clear how accepted that was outside the ska community.

I think Chronic Sonata and Victor Rice have more "mass" appeal than most artists that dabble in dub. I know a guy who has never listened to any ska, reggae, rocksteady, etc. yet loves these two artists. When I explained to him some background on Victor Rice he was pretty surprised. I know these two artists don't play true dub, but that's just as fine in my book. Thier tunes totally groove.

LEE SCRATCH PERRY. the man was absolutely insane, almost as insane as his music. probably the most unique dub out there in my own opinion.
