just out of curiosity..... do any of you ska-larly (hardy har har) ladies and gents know the origin of th word ska? it seems like a stupid qquestion but i'm in a stupid question kind of mood 8)

There are two competing theories of where the name came from.

One was from the expression "love, skavoovie" and the other from the sound the guitar makes. Others can elaborate, but those are the two basic ideas. I side with the guitar sound.

I can't help you with the ska side of things, but I know that the term "reggae" (reggay) originated from a Toots and the Maytals song called "Do the Reggay." I'm fairly sure it was a dance for a short time, before it came to describe an entire genre.
