In another one of my often hare-brained promotional ideas, I'm plastering the SU campus with flyers that say "ska" in giant letters and then in very small letters underneath, "syracuseska.com".

The theory at work here is with 18,000 students that are over-represented from the ska-happy Northeast US (esp the NYC metro area), quite a few should see that word "ska" and hopefully stop long enough to make a note there is a local website promoting same.

I'm sure we'll also get the merely curious, but I'm fine with that as well. The general idea is to fight the limitation of regular flyers that mean nothing even to most ska fans, because they've never heard of the bands (common esp for people from out of town). It's never failed to amaze me how many SU ska fans there are when we book The Toasters or Mustard Plug, for example. But names they don't know usually don't even get their passing attention.

I'll let everyone know if this remotely works out or becomes a big flop.

In the meantime, I'm open to any other promo ideas people have ...

i've made similar ones for my reggae site, but i used the cut up tear off fingers at the bottom for my URL, like people leave phone #'s on a handyman flyer. so they can tear off the url and leave the flyer up. your address is a bit easier to recall than mine w/ caps etc

What's up? Good idea, if you put Ska/reggae it could attract a lot more attention since reggae fans outnumber ska fans at least 2 to 1. However, that might destroy the beautiful simplicity of the concept.

Cool. Generic ska flyer. Everyone feel free to use them too.

Good thinking - the genre (or your website, or your production company) can built up as a brand. It's nice to have Slackers fans and Mustard Plug fans, but we'd rather have ska fans, eh? :D

I was thinking of getting vinyl stickers for outdoor tagging. A little more investment, but more staying power, faster application and they're something to hand out at shows, too.

I missed two big opportunities by not having a sign-up sheet for the roc-ska mailing-list for the Know How or The Ops. Have you had any success with that at shows?

I'll do the same - I'm sure people will leave out the hyphen, add a k to roc or otherwise mangle roc-ska.com.
