Hey Everyone,
There is a monthly Critical Mass bike ride going on this Friday. The ride departs from Everson Plaza, meeting at 4:30PM. Critical Mass bike rides happen across the world on the last Friday of every month. If you need more incentive or information check out critical-mass.info and myspace.com/criticalmasssyracuse

ok so i used to be a regular participant in the syracuse critical mass bike rides- but for several reasons i do not think i will participate with you guys anymore. several reasons:
1. why everson at 4:30? I understand wanting to get the public outside of the university involved- but most of the public WORKS (myself included) until typically 5pm or so- why not the typical 5:30 send off?
2. The past couple rides last fall were far to sparse and full of idiotic actions of a few individuals. I'm all for "reclaiming the roads" but riding into oncoming traffic? cruising through redlights in busy intersections? hey i got a good idea lets go on the onramp of 690 in the opposite direction of traffic! :puke:
3. Why the hell did you guys put fucking grateful dead dancing bears on the flyer??

so i guess there is an alternate start to tomorrows ride? starting at 4:00 at hendricks chapel- maybe i can finish my work early and show up- but these rides have gone from fun to just plain frustrating.....

hey,
so yeah we moved the time because new people are excited and facilitating/organizing the cm rides. the time and place seemed most logical to them- 4:30 to be in traffic before traffic is gone. we all know syracuse streets are dead 95% of the day. although i can't say for sure, but i believe the location was strategically moved to place more focus on the community at large, not the university area.
2. its ironic to know that people are dropping off of cm rides because the crowd is sparse, seems kind of counter productive really. but having organized cm rides for many months in the past i do recognize peoples valid concerns about self absorbed assholes putting other people in danger. that ahs never been cool with me, or anyone else that takes cm seriously. it is an issue that needs to be addressed, and other cm riders should feel comfortable stopping f*ck up actions when and before they start. my good friend lindsay and i have created a syracuse critical mass zine that is distributed before each ride now. that along side with personal conversations have really helped. we are building back from this thinned out group, and with a good group of knowledgable and rational folks we hope to build cm back to more than it was in the past!
lastly, again with new folks organizing rides, new ideas, new art, creativity, imagination. not everyone likes ska, ska certainly isn't my dig except fro about 10 bands i really like. i hope you can make it, the flyers shouldn't matter, the message should.

The next time a cyclist gets ran over and the driver speeds off without stopping... just think of that angry guy blaring his horn that you were holding up.

I hate people that waste time. I hate more when it's my time being wasted. If I were driving in a car trying to get someplace on an already shitty city infrastructure... I'd probably be a lot more pissed!

I don't even own a car, and I ride my bike at least 300+ miles a week. And I still get pissed when I see this kind of shit. Critical Mass is a lot like Communism. Works great in theory but just doesn't pan out in the real world.

You just piss a lot of people off without getting the point across.
