Yo. Shitty day. Anyway, I was thinking about the best ska/reggae performances I've seen. The best always have quality music and sound but they also include great banter, original style, excitement, and a little charm. I saw the Pietasters once, and although I'm not a huge fan of their cds their set blew me away. First their drummer came out on stage all alone and started playing a swing-style rhythm as the rest of the band came out one by one, grabbed their instruments, and joined in successively. Then there were contests between songs for free shots and beer, good entertainment and music. Usually the more experienced a band is the better the stage show but not always. 50-50. Another time i saw a regular old punk band in buffalo (forgot the name) the only thing that stood out was that their bass player would go absolutely crazy each song, writhing on the floor, doing splits, but playing well and putting on such a show that i always hoped to see that band again. So what's more important then, the performance or the music? For me, honestly it's about 60% music 40% perormance.
