Is there a reason we should? Joe Basi was the one booking all the cool bands there and no one else, honestly.

The reason you should is that we should be in contact with every local college's music people so we can utilize campus radio , newspapers, message boards and listserves to spread the word about ska/reggae in the region. college students like music and some have money to go to shows and buy merch, but there's poor communication about shows. if anyone has contacts for the newspaper at OCC or the radio station/music board at lemoyne caz su esf morrisviille cortland ithaca college cornell etc..lets compile a list of local college media/music board contacts. i hate hearing about shows after the fact or the week of. lets spread the word better.
i think the daily orange has one day a week they print up a nightlife type edition section. it would be great to utilize this king of free publicity if we had the contact names emails and numbers of ALL of these in the area.

While I understand why you say that, these people purposely make themselves hard to contact. Most of them don't want to hear from random bands. Its pretty much the same deal with most venues. Every live music venue has bitched to me about getting deluged by requests from mediocre bands, so most won't listen to any demos at all. You'd be startled which venues are doing this. They book who they already know or a handful of recommendations from people they trust.

Most universities and college concert boards are doing the same thing.

well i get contacted a lot form good name reggae bands looking for university and college shows because unlike most shows they actually pay. so i personally would like a database of local contacts in the local academia scenes not just for referring touring bands to , but to use as publicity for local shows to build the scene, a

I understand that, but people make their living from such lists -- they SELL them. I've never known people to share the info and compiling it yourself is a major pain and like you said, its a moving target anyway.

I'll also warn you they book the welcome back shows in the summer and most of the rest of the academic year early in the fall. I've *never* had luck getting these people to book acts they didn't already want. You're forgetting that they're bring offered 100 bands for every one they need. Just sayin'.

Like an assistant to Dan Mastronardi at Hollerback Productions spent easily hundreds of hours compiling this for Upstate NY colleges to book RazSum to a college tour. And then not a single show came out of all that effort. See a little problem here?
