Anyone else want one? The design on the left is on the front, the design on the right on the back. Black only. $22 each or less (depends on how many want them, because the shipping will get cheaper). Coming from France (the home of socialist ska).

Lemme know before I send the money off ...

the three arrows symbol is something that i haven't taken notice of until recently for some reason. a while back i had a gutterpunk mohawk that i cut myself with scissors after i graduated. after a while it started growing in and i felt sort of phoney and fashioney having it, so i shaved my head. any time i feel myself floating in a wrong direction i come back to a strong ground of ska and always find out something new. i decided to read up on skinheads again. i know a bit already, but i don't think i'd ever really noticed the three arrows before. i don't know why! at first based on the sites i'd seen i thought it was a straight up socialist logo...but then after reading about it i started to see what it really means and it's phenomenally interesting! i know you know all this, but a lot of people don't so i'm going to share what i learned!

from what i can see Image first emerged in the early 1930s as a symbol for the "iron front" of germany, a group of social democrats opposed to the national socialism of germany and the emerging nazi effort which promoted the same. it was created by Sergei Tschachotin for use by the front. the three "liberty arrows" represented the main enemies of the social democrats of germany of the time: the national socialists, the communists, and the conservatives. other resources seem to claim that the arrows represent fighting capitalism, social nationalism [fascism], and "a reaction to represent" which i can only take as attempts at disbanding representitive govening bodies. the arrows point down attacking enemies that lurk below the cause essentially, as evils tend to lurk in valleys, etc. one page had a poem by, i think: Karl Schneller which describes the three arrows and their meaning, although the alta vista translation was shady, this is what i drew a lot from.

*edit* i just found translated writings from a nazi journal expressing disdain for the power of the three arrows gaining weight among the citizens of Germany. it mentions that the arrows stand for "activity, discipline and unity" which could be an alternate meaning, yet the main references still point to fighting the enemies of capitalism, social nationalism, and "reaction."

*edit 2* it's apparently been adopted as the symbol of the U.S.'s young people's socialist league, which would mean it hasn't strayed far from it's roots. although i find that many people fear socialism and associate it too much with communism. the term "social democracy" is much more comfortable for me personally. i won't get into my politics here...

*edit3* i just found this: Several interpretations were put to the three arrows to reason: indeed the three basic principles (agreement, Akivitaet and discipline), the three columns (a party, trade unions, worker haven) or the three opponents (communist, monarchists, national socialist)

*edit 4* here's some info on the rude social club in particular. it appears to exist mainly as an anti-fascist, anti-sexist, anti-racist soccer team! nice!

Everything started in early 2004, after earing butt the "Mondiali Antirrazisti" (anti racism football worldcup organized for many years in Italy, montecchio) A small group of individuals decided to take share in it.
It was then planned to creat has mixed football TEAM and of race to learn how to play that game, and, little by little, one sunday trainning after another, the red and black in leopard (our sport gear' S colours) made to their way.
Provided in the mean time with has website, scarfs with the teams logo, the plan really took shape and solidified itself.
The begining of the championship drove custom across the the Alps and we eventually reached the great sport vent under the seal of anti racism.
Our TEAM, using all of its strengh, its humour, in shorts all of its resources, fought for its colours to eventually end up among the best teams (starting from the bottom).
This experiment, full of left, laughs, physical breads, left custom craving for more, so we decided to gather have year association to diversify our activities.
Football remains of race our link goal we don' T play At it anyhow, it must remain friendly, amateur, and above all the significant pleasure we take in playing is more, than victory itself, have well have sexist, racist, but even fascist behaviours are not accepted and even more fought
Our TEAM considers itself above all has generating human and social link, standing up for what we believe in: anti racism, solidarity, and so one...
Farming The idea of organising and musical vents was undoubted and this is why we are gathering have year association.

if any of this is wrong, or if you know more, please tell me! i'm continuing my reading right now, which includes the "bastardization" or adaptation of the swastica, the importance of symbols [especially those used in opposition to it] and modern adaptation of the three arrows. if you know anything of the modern use of the arrows please let me know. i'm starting to like them a lot!

i found this random message board with these posts:

that link to the following articles, all of which are profoundly interesting:

these two you need to translate at altavista from german to english:

That all sounds about right. Because "football" (soccer to us) in Europe is full of what we'd call dumb jock behavior at best and racism at worst, it makes sense they organized this multi-racial amateur team that happens to also love ska music. It seems to also be an online radio show, which is very cool stuff.

As I've alluded to elsewhere, ska is inherently political in most of the world outside the USA. Some bands are more political (Les Partisans, Irie Revoltes, Maroon Town, Ya Basta, No Respect, Desorden Publico, etc.) and some almost not at all (Busters, Bad Manners, etc., etc.), but overall, there is a more serious tone with lyrics elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong -- there are actually plenty of American ska bands that do the same thing lyrically (The Slackers, The Toasters, Fishbone, Streetlight Manifesto, Leftover Crack, The Chinkees, The Adjusters for starters), but its not really how is ska in known here, is it now?

Thanks for the history Tom!

As you can see...The 3 arrow symbol is my avatar. It is a symbol used by the band "Strike Anywhere" and thats what I thought it was. Now that I know what it is (thanks smo) I like it even more. I personaly am in favor for socialism (well, democratic socialism).

But I don't completly understand the t-shirt. It's based off of a kickball teams shirt or something? I think it would be more sensable to get if a team is actually organized here and plays.
