YES

I wanted to go see them when they played in Buffalo, but I was still working my crappy security job. Now nothing will stop me.

I wish my initial reaction was as reserved. I'm glad I'm using the computers at work, otherwise my neighbors would take issue with all the shouting I did. :P

I got a huge smile and a yelp. I missed them in Buffalo too. Hopefully I can go to this. I don't want to get too excited until I know I can go for sure. It'll depend a lot on school and what else is going on though.

Not to be a jerk here, but you need to realize 2 things:

1) This is Dave Wakeling ONLY. As anyone will tell you from recent "English Beat" tours, he really can't hold a candle to Ranking Roger, who was always the lead singer for the band. Dave wrote the songs, and played guitar, absolutely. But he's no Ranking Roger. Not even close, sorry. When this tour went around the USA last time, it got fairly bad reviews. Not because Dave is bad as lead singer, but primarily because he lacks the stage presence and a lot of people going didn't realize it was just Dave Wakeling with a backing band.

2) It's very odd, but both Dave Wakeling's tour page and Pollstar both show him at Water Street Music Hall on Sat, Oct 15th AND AGAIN on Sat, Oct 22nd. Kinda odd, don't ya think?

I feel bad, because hey, I booked Neville Staple of The Specials and took a bloodbath on the show. And it turns out, so did everyone else who booked him on that tour, even though he was actually amazing live (I knew that having seen him previously in Las Vegas).

BTW, this seems a nostalgia tour, because I see Dave Wakeling is paired with other 80s bands on parts of the tour ...

Better that you point it out now, before I talk it up and plaster the town with flyers :D

This seemed a potential windfall for our scene, but it could actually be a major trainwreck.

I checked three websites and contacted both bands before I said anything about the aborted Distorted Penguins/The Glow show. Usually I'm the one preaching, "check the facts!", but this time, my excitement got the better of me.

The press kit is evasive on the current lineup. The photo on the profile for his booking agent's website shows only Wakeling, but there's no other indication.

Could you point me to writeups for prior shows? My search came up empty, and any accounts would help when I contact management at Water Street. Maybe we can head off this being a total disaster.

If nothing else, I hope I can convince them to take down the picture of the original Beat lineup and replace it with one of Wakeling.

Very. It's not listed on the Water Street calendar, so I hope it's not confirmed yet.

Really? Damn now I'm not as angry about missing it. And I still don't know how that little amount of people showed up for Neville. Considering it was probably the best ska act I've seen in Syracuse or really ever. Amazing presence, amazing songs, amazing time, and amazingly small turnout.

But can you handle Ranking Roger's new wave-ish stuff?
