Hey, this is Jordan from The LEvar Burtones...
I don't know if it's just me, but i really think that the Syracuse and Rohcester (we're rebuilding) ska bands should set up a show. I would really be psyched for something of the sort. Besides, it's summer now and schedules should be a lot more flexible!
Just for the record, we're not being dicks in Syracuse not booking bands like yours right now. The reality is, our venue situation is very, very unstable (unlike yours), so booking bands that can't draw yet is too dicey at the moment for us. If I have to pay the Westcott $180 just for the rental alone and then sound on top of that, I have to be careful who I book in there, ya know? All of our recent shows there have needed 70+ kids just to break even, and then we're severely hassled if we go over 100 kids, so its like we can't win either way. And Wa-Noa is a problem right now, because its the height of the golf season, which is where all their money comes from.
Hopefully we'll do some more coffeehouse shows where spinning in small out of town bands is more doable. But the punkier the band, the more these places hate the very idea. IVFK and Taj Motel Trio were seriously pushing it with the owner (for the record, he doesn't personally care, but the people in the expensive apartments above him do). We have no equivalent to Harmony House or Steel Hall or even those places in the Monroe County parks.
So, for now, its much, much easier for our bands to come out there than the reverse, sorry ...
