I look forward to working with our eastern neighbors in the coming months.

Go North of the Border instead.

Easier said than done. There are so many Montreal ska bands I've been unable to get down here, because crossing the border is such a hassle.

the delegates...

those guys come through ehre all the time...they are from canada...look into them (if you havn't already) they are a good friggin time. both onstage and off.

1) I'm Miles, i live in South Onondaga and used to live on the Westside in Shit-a-cuse. I play alto sax and sing for The Secret Ions.
2) My mum was always into reggae, but I wasn't actually introduced to ska until my bud Jeff Shewell made me a mix tape and i spent hours listening to it until i sat on that shit and broke it sliding down a railing when it was in my back poket.
3) The Skatalites, Streetlight Manifesto, Big D and the Kids Table, PirQlaters, The Specials, The Slackers, Westbound Train, Public Access etc.
4) The simplicity and ability to communicate easily through music and motion.
5) Getting crushed in crowd surge at SM show in albany, opening for RazSum, skalloween

1) Anna "the giantess", Fayetteville-Manlius, I sing for Magic Goat!!!
2) My first show was about 2 years ago...when i was "convinced" to go by my fellow bandmates (but before they were...ooh tricky). I had listened to ska as a kid, but a live show got me hooked
3) I grew up on the Supertones and the Insyderz, but now I'm also a fan of Razbari Sumthing, The Benefits, Too Short Notice, The Planet Smashers (we even got our DJ at our senior prom play "Super Orgy Porno Party" for us....a definite hit) and a whole bunch of others that I cant think of right now
4) I love the people. Everyone is so nice and there's no feeling of competition...just wanting to have some fun, sweat a lot, and play some great music!
5) I love it when fans get really into the music. My favorite shows were at our school's Showboat and we had some kids dance on stage during our song and also at Onondoga High School where the entire audience got out of their seats and danced around US! It was truly the most amazing thing I have ever seen! :D

1) Your name, where you live, some general stuff like that.

zipper, i live in manhattan, high school student. probably the only 16 year old kid in my school (maybe the whole island) who listens to punk/ska/hardcore

2) How did you get into ska?

i didnt like how ska sounded like when i first heard it until i got to listen to choking victim/leftover crack followed by catch 22. i just got used to the horns

3) What are some of your favorite ska bands?

mustard plug, big d, kalnoky's bands, suicide machines, mighty mighty bosstones, lil jon and the east side boyz

4) What do you like about the ska scene?

im replacing the word "scene" to "shows".

mostly because i dont get hit and pushed around when i go to the pit. i also love skankin while im taking a shower

5) What are some of your favorite moments from shows?

getting the mic from the singers. skankin alone when nobody enjoys the band. when i got a cramp on my leg and dropped infront of kalnoky during ska is dead 2. being there.

I'd be afraid that I'd fall.

Do you have those little rubbery things on the floor or something?
And if you did, wouldn't it hurt to skank on those?
It'd scratch up your feet or something..

Ahh me. A new concept to ponder on a rainy day...

My name is Theo, I play guitar for my 8 piece ska band out of flemington, in Central NJ. I now go to school at Ithaca college, and have since become interested in the scenes around new york state. I have loved ska music for a long time, I was introduced to first by a friend my freshman year of high school, and have been in love ever since.

Feel free to contact me with any questions

Let's get everyone to start by introducing yourself.

1) Your name, where you live, some general stuff like that. Name is Jackie, I live in Brookfield CT (about 20 minutes from NY)... 16 years old, high school junior, very into English, reading, writing etc. Play bass in marching band, and jazz band, used to do it for concert band. Co-run the ska zine called The UpBeat [http://www.myspace.com/theupbeatzine].

2) How did you get into ska? My friend burned me an RBF CD; then I went to a Catch 22/Tip the Van show and was hooked.

3) What are some of your favorite ska bands? Save Ferris, Streetlight, Fortunado, Toasters, Mad Caddies, Big D etc.

4) What do you like about the ska scene? I love, obviously, the music. The way it makes you feel. The people involved with the scene. I have more than doubled my friend count from all the amazing people I've met. How everyone isn't all self concsious, and can just dance, no matter how stupid they look.

5) What are some of your favorite moments from shows? TSPO in NYC this summer. It was so hot and humid and sticky and I could barely stand up. I was up in the front with my friends about 20 minutes or so before TSPO came on; and then suddenly, these huge clouds rolled in and opened up and it rained and thundered like there was no tomorrow. It was the most fun I have EVER had-- dancing around in the rain and mud with all my best friends to one of the most amazing bands in the genre.

*is SOOOOOOO jealous*

I dance in the rain sometimes, but it's never with my best friends and never includes mud.

It's usually outside in the middle of the road during a thunderstorm.

...It's amazing..

Put ADD kids, ska and rain together... oh man. Orgasmic.

...Plus I have a bit of an asian fetish, and this place was PACKED with hot asian guys.
That day, I think a part of me died and went to heaven.
