Battle of the Bands to open for Catch-22 in September:

The Buffalo Icon
Doors 6pm
$7 day of show only

featuring:

And Many More (thought they went by "Altai District" now)
Rex Banner
Mechatama
Not On Track
Gnar Dogs Revenge

391 Ellicott Street
Buffalo, NY 14203
(716) 842-0167

This is an excellent chance to check out the Buffalo ska scene and network. I'll hop on a Greyhound if I have to, but I'd rather chip in to carpool (borrowed vehicle's not an option this time)

C'mon Rochester people, this is a big chance to show Buffalo that our scene is ready to make a comeback!

I approve of Rex Banner. Mechatama sounds okay from the bad recording, vocals are obviously a weak point. Not On Track is kinda nice, again has bad recording, at times the style reminds me of skarmy. I'd have to see them live to really get what they are doing. Horns are out of tune or just shitty for Gnar Dogs Revenge. Danceable I guess but things get a bit repetitive.

Well, presumably you'll be seeing them all live soon enough anyway.

A lot of what I am hearing in here is very judgemental. Yes, the recordings are very sketchy, but I guess you have to expierence the Buffalo vibe to get what we are doing over here. Tonights show was very enjoyable with the exception of And Many More,to me they are just noise... way too many horns.

Bands don't need you to lie to them. If they need work on something it's best for everyone to say something instead of just grinning and bearing it. To tell a band what their weak points are is a good thing, it doesn't make you any less supportive.
It is much better to be able to honestly and openly talk about issues in a contructive way then to get upset and accuse people of being harsh. To be honest is to be supportive because it is showing you care.

Making the trip was well worth it, for the networking opportunity and just having fun.

all the bands really appreciate the support....and to think last year we were just building up the ska scene from rubble ( just after all the previous buffalo groups split)

I'm pretty sure I'm the only out-of-towner who showed. Aaron Stormo wanted to come, but he had a prior commitment.

People think I'm crazy, dropping $36 on Greyhound tickets for shows, but what's the point of having money if you can't enjoy spending it?

I first met Thom Foolery (not to be confused with Rick Yogis a.k.a Tom Foolery of Tom Foolery and the Shannanighans) when the Slackers played Nietsche's last year, and he told me his theory about how music scenes ebb and flow over time, and that he thought Buffalo's ska scene was back on the upswing.

Here's to hoping both of our towns can continue to rebuild and grow.

Ska seems to be expanding all across Upstate NY and all of us on this forum are probably part of that. We're using our collective contacts to help each other out and thats the sign of a true scene. 8)
