If you don't want to spend that much, I'd suggest getting a Stella (pictured below) from them, which is basically a Vespa without the name. These aren't really Vespa knock-offs, since the company making them made Vespas originally. It's pretty much a Vespa PX150.

i just spent 4 days in NYC i cant tell you how many italian style scooters i saw there mostly vespa & stellas both new and classic. i know they have a dealer there, but i was shocked at the number on the streets. a

Actually, there are an increasing number of scooter shops in NYC, which makes sense, as its a perfect place to operate one. They really make the most sense in urban environments.

$2000 is too high for a Vespa VBB in that condition. $1000 would be more reasonable, but even that is a bit on the high side. I paid $200 for my VBB and it was in about the same condition as this one and I got mine from the original owner, which is worth something extra in my book.

And saying it'll be worth $5000 restored is laughable. It would need to be restored *exactly* to mint condition to be worth anywhere near that and it'd still take an ignorant buyer to pay that much. I'm guessing this seller knows little about Vespas, since they obviously are mixing up the value of a restored GS with a restored VBB. There is no comparison between the two, honestly. The VBB, while having a nice classic style, is one of the lowliest Vespas on the used market, both because there were a ton of them imported to America and because there are limited things you can do to make them go faster than 50mph. GSs are very rare, more stylish and can easily do 65mph stock and even more with a little tinkering.

It's not a bad price, but hardly a bargain either. I wouldn't be surprised if whoever is selling this bought it really cheap, got it running and is now hoping to make a quick profit. There is a lot of that around old Vespas and its notable they appear to have no idea what model it is or engine size, etc. In my experience, that's usually because they either bought it as a cheap toy or because they're flipping it for a fast buck. Either way, buyer beware.

I didn't really look at the photo all that closely, but this guy is correct. This looks like a cheap "restoration" from Vietnam and those are MAJOR BAD NEWS.
