Hey everyone! This is Casey from Book it Up Rochester! I am active in the Rochester ska scene as a promoter and show frequenter, and always looking to set up for the latest ska bands in Rochester and for new faces from the ska realm beyond the 585. I want to start a discussion about the Rochester ska scene, which currently includes bands such as....

Mrs Skannotto http://www.myspace.com/skannotto
The Steakouts http://www.myspace.com/thesteakouts
Free for All http://www.myspace.com/shutupdan1
Radioactive Snowshu http://www.myspace.com/radioactivesnowshu
The Couchtesters (these guys don't have music online at this point) http://www.myspace.com/couchtesterss
Two Ton Ska http://www.myspace.com/twotonska
The Radium Girls (sorta!) http://www.myspace.com/theradiumgirls
This is a Stick Up http://www.myspace.com/tiasuofficial
Sand Bar (these guys just relocated to NYC, but they will be back for shows now and then) http://www.myspace.com/sandbarrochesterny

Do you know of others? Let us know! November 27 will be Rochester's first Skanksgiving event in years, and will be a great opportunity for you to experience a heaping dose of RocSka. Check it out: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=142267339145746 !!!

It's ironic that you name 9 ska bands based 1 1/2 hours away, but only Mrs. Skannotto and This Is A Stick Up from that list have played here so far. Several others you mention have made inquiries. I'd like to hear if any of these bands especially interest some of the regulars in Syracuse, since it's usually best to start where the interest is the highest.

We used to have a good two way street between Rochester and Syracuse bands, so hopefully we can get back to that point again.

And along those lines, I know for fact that 4 Point 0 and Razbari Sumthing have appreciated the love from the Rochester scene this summer ...

Two Ton Ska - Awful name, good tunes on their myspace. I'd definitely go check em out when they're in town.

EDIT: PS: Bring back The Motives.

I can't seem to find any page for that band. They aren't Rochester-based are they?

Nope. Sudbury, Ontario. Which is 400 miles from Rochester. Not even close.

They posted a thread here about their band elsewhere on this forum.

It's unfortunate that The Couchtesters do not currently have music up; they are definitely one tight third wave band. If anyone remembers The Sandwich Crackers (Rochester dub), there's a bunch of those guys in this band. 3/4's of them to be exact. I'll be sure to post an announcement if any of their music is uploaded!

What happened to the Rochester guy?... Twig, Twitch, or something to that effect.

Did he get burnt out on the whole show/promotion thing?

Many thanks to Justin Skannotto for coming out to the last show and handing out their new album. Nice promo move there.

Yeah. The usual stuff - venues coming and going, bands breaking up, people drifting away.

When Public Access and the LeVar BurTones split up in 2008, as far as I was concerned, those were the last nails in the coffin for that era.

Casey's doing a fine job. I knew it was only a matter of time until someone else stepped up to the plate...
