It's basically spawning off a conversation myself, Johanna and Rob have had. I'm also trying to light a fire on this board and somehow spark interesting conversation.

While I'm not really into there being a thread on the board about this, said girlfriend did tell me that she couldn't look at the pamphlet I gave Matt because she was a republican. I explained to her being republican had no baring on if she could be vegetarian or not. She then said she was conservative and that meant she couldn't be vegetarian. Again I tell her being conservative does not bar her from sympathizing with animal welfare/rights. She then looks around and repeats absentmindedly that I can't change her beliefs. I'm pretty sure this lady has no idea what being republican or being conservative means.

while it may have no direct bearing, it is generally percieved as leftist and therefore would probably make other republicans look at her as a hypocrite for supporting animal rights.

while i can't say i agree one way or the other (i wouldn't have read the pamphlet either, but for different reasons) i can understand the reasoning, even if its a little silly.

I just automatically think of all the pro-life and/or christian vegan kids that pop up every few years and make a bunch of noise in Syracuse.
