Where can I buy some Ska, Reggea and dancehall cds? SOund Garden has some but what about online? Jump-Up has a nice selection, I'd like to know where I can find more.

And what does everyone think about Reggeaton? MTV2 had a little special showing artist from the genre. I think it's a neat style.

Nate, use amazon. If you look a ska cds there will be a list created by another user on the left colum. Or there'll be a "see related items" list.

I buy a lot of stuff from half.com too, I try to find stuff that is around 5 bucks + the cheap $2.49 shipping. That reminds me, I bought a Mad Caddies CD on there a month or two ago and never received it..damnit.

I can't tell you how many really really good cds I have bought from Used bins. I got Blues Meanies, Let's Go Bowling, all my Toasters cds, Greased by LTJ, Supertones, Insyderz, Hepcat. All the stuff right below the radar really.

I really love JumpUp for their international selection. Chuck Wren gets in some pretty obscure stuff thats otherwise really tough to order online (try mailorder from Mexico or Denmark like I have and see what I mean). But he's not big on the more "mainstream" stuff you might mean, in which case, yeah, sites like half.com and just good used bins can always be key.

It's not exactly the same thing, but I just scored a very cool Madness t-shirt for 10 bucks the other day off the clearance rack at Sound Garden, go figure.

Yeah, it actually reminds me of some variations of ska I've heard as well, except reggaeton is more closely associated with gangsta rap, which I steer clear of. Rap of course developed from Jamaican ska toasting (which is how they became The Toasters), so I really don't see the conflict in mixing ska and rap -- it's done a lot more frequently in Europe than here. But the gangsta style, no, sorry, that's nothing I want to associate with.

But the other elements of reggaeton are very cool and very adaptable to ska, if anyone wants to explore that more closely ...

The other day I got Right On Time by Hepcat and Boardies and Boundries by LTJ at SoundGarden. Ebay and Half.com are both so awesome. I get like everything from there...or at least I try. They got deals.

Amazon pretty much has every single CD ever made by every single band ever.

SOOOOO not true!

When I want something, I comb through distro's, trade lists or ebay.com (as a last resort).

I agree. Amazon works great for mainstream stuff, but once your tastes get more obscure (like mine for quite some time now), it blows chunks ...

BTW, on a related note, I scored a 99 cent Metro Stylee CD today from the Salvation Army on Erie Blvd, go figure. Nearly new condition. I've always had a demo by them, but never the actual CD. Great band that I booked very early on. Always meant to buy the CD, but just never got around to it. Nice score.
